About the event

The Museum is inviting young people aged 12-17 years to take part in our Teens Takeover Day. Explore all that the Museum has to offer, discover how the London we know and love today was shaped over the last 200 years, and learn what skills are needed to create a more sustainable and inclusive future.

On offer are three bespoke activities for young people to take part in, unaccompanied by parents and guardians. Entry to the Museum is free for young people aged 17 and under. Find out how to join our drop-in sessions and workshops below.

Teens Takeover Day activities are for 12-17-year-olds and are not open to the general public.

Want to extend your experience? Young people aged 12-15 can also sign-up to the Young Creatives Youth Club. Join us for a taster session on Saturday 18 May and then on Wednesday evenings until 19 June. Admission to join the Young Creatives Youth Club is £5.

It’s a great chance for you to show off your problem-solving and teamwork skills, and teams that solve the most puzzles win a prize!

Creating & Connecting with Clay Workshop

Date: Saturday 18 May

Times: 12:30, 14:00, 15:15, 16:45

Location: Transportorium

Delve into some of the social stories of communities in London and explore what London transport means to you. You’ll have the chance to choose a story to exhibit in the Museum as if you were a curator at the London Transport Museum. To start off, you’ll engage in a free-play warmup before learning clay techniques such as modelling, coiling, and joining. Throughout the process, you will be guided through conversations about London’s social history and identity as a Londoner. Not only will you get to enjoy the therapeutic process of pottery building, but you’ll also gain a deeper understanding of the city’s rich culture and heritage.

As you learn about London’s history, you can creatively express how you connect with social stories, transport, and the city itself.

This session will accommodate a maximum of 10 young people and will last 1 hour.

Spaces are limited and offered on a first come, first served basis. No booking necessary.

Can you code the Tube?

Date: Saturday 18 May

Times: Drop-in between 11:00-16:30

Location: Luke Skills Space

You might be interested to know that London has the world’s very first underground network, but this claim to fame comes with many challenges. Have you ever wondered how engineers integrate new technology into this historic system? Or how coding can be used on the underground? Perhaps you’ve also thought about how coding can help create a more sustainable underground network?

If you’re up for the challenge, you can find answers to the above questions and figure out how to code the trains of your capital city. Whether you’re new to coding or an experienced coder, this session can bring to life the ways that coding can be used in the real world to solve problems that impact our everyday lives.

This is a drop-in session, with no booking necessary.
